This Is Who We Are

Every face here tells a story. Every story is part of ours.
Meet the people of Mt. Zion - and consider making this your family too.

Pastor James Palmer, III, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Nearly 25 years at Mt. Zion - and 44 years in pastoral ministry altogether - have taught me one thing above all: people matter more than programs, and presence matters more than perfection. Mt. Zion is a congregation that understands that. I am honored to be their pastor, and I would love for you to come and worship with us.
Pastor James Palmer, III Senior Pastor
Stephanie Palmer, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Every person who walks through our doors matters to me - by name, by face, by what they are carrying that day. That has been my commitment since the first day my husband and I came to Mt. Zion, and it will be my commitment as long as God gives me the privilege. You are not a visitor here. You are family we have not yet met.
Stephanie Palmer First Lady
Barbara Smith, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
My family's roots are deeply in Mt. Zion - decades of worship, service, and belonging woven into this congregation's story. That history is not just mine; many others and their families share it too. It is a reminder of what a church can be when it truly commits to its people. I am proud to be part of it, and I would love for you to be part of it too.
Barbara Smith
Dennis Smith, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
The first thing I want you to know is that you are welcome here - genuinely, warmly welcome. Mt. Zion is a congregation where people look out for one another, where a new face is a reason to celebrate, and where you will not stay a stranger for long. Come as you are. We mean that.
Dennis Smith
Steve Taylor, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I may not always be the loudest voice in the room. But Mt. Zion honors my voice. I love speaking love through my work in the sanctuary and grounds - seasonal and religious decoration. Mt. Zion is a beautiful place because it has beautiful people who love the Lord. I invite you to come and worship with us. You'll be very glad you did.
Steve Taylor
Matthew Johnson, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Welcome. I am glad you are here.

Madeline Burger, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Whether I am making announcements on a Sunday morning or hosting one of our special programs, my goal is always the same - to make every person in that room feel celebrated and included. We, at Mt. Zion, want everyone to know that they are special and loved by God. It is part of my calling to help people to know that. Visit us so that we may celebrate God's love together. Bring the family. Bring the kids. Your blessing awaits! Looking forward to seeing you!
Madeline Burger
Linda Chambers Smith, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I have given a good portion of my life to Mt. Zion - in service, in fellowship, and in being among the quiet faithful workers that strive to keep Mt. Zion a safe and serene place of love and fellowship year after year. Mt. Zion has been my home and spiritual safe haven for many years. It has given to me and meant more to me than mere words can say. Come and see what I mean. We'd really love to see you!
Linda Chambers Smith
Terry Thompson, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
My faith and my commitment to this community are not separate things - they are united. Mt. Zion honors that. It is a church that cares about its neighborhood, that shows up beyond Sunday morning. It takes its mission seriously - and that makes me very proud. Come visit us - and ask for me, Terry. I'll be happy to show you around and tell you about my church - Mt. Zion Baptist Church. I'll be looking for you!
Terry Thompson
Jeanie Smalls, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I may not be the most outspoken person, but I hope my smile tells you what my words sometimes cannot - that I am genuinely glad you are here, that this place has meant so very much to me, and that I believe with my whole heart it can become something so very special to you too. Pop in on any Sunday morning and see for yourself. We'll be happy to see you.
Jeanie Smalls
Hugh Smalls, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I will not dress it up - Mt. Zion is just good people doing their best to love God and love each other. No pretense, no performance. Just real folks, real faith, and a real welcome waiting for you every Sunday. Come on out.

Arnold Palmer, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Music has been an essential part of my life - for my entire life. It is through my music that I honor the Lord and seek to bless people. Mt. Zion is a special place where I express my love of God through my music. I've been worshipping and serving as the church pianist for many years now. It is my spiritual home. I love the people and our place and presence in each other's lives. The spirit here, the faithfulness of this congregation, the legacy of this place - you feel it the moment you walk in. I am proud to call this my church home. The only thing missing is you!
Arnold Palmer
Ristina Robinson, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I have been a member of Mt. Zion as long as I can remember. In fact, it is my blessing to have lived long enough to now have the longest Mt. Zion membership. Although I have gotten up in years and have moved away, Mt. Zion has not forgotten me. And I have not forgotten Mt. Zion - and never will. Mt. Zion has a long history of caring about people, and I love that about my church. Over the decades, that is one thing that has not changed - its love for people. Won't you come and share in that love too? We'd love to see you!

James Dillard, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I have given many years to my church, my community, and to my country - and I would give them all again. Whether I am in the pew on Sunday morning or joining from home on Zoom, I am here. Singing, praying, fellowshipping, studying the Word. Mt. Zion is where my heart is, and if you give it a chance, it will be where yours is too.
James Dillard
Ida Wallace, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I do not need to be asked twice. Whenever there is a need at Mt. Zion, I automatically want to be there to help meet it. This congregation has given me so much - belonging, purpose, the wisdom of years shared in community. My worship, service, and fellowship here has meant more to me than words can say. I show up joyfully for Mt. Zion - and I always will. Won't you come and share in this blessed fellowship with us? We'd love to see you.
Ida Wallace
Thomas Wallace, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I believe people know whether they are truly welcome the moment they walk through a door. My prayer is that every person who comes to Mt. Zion feels it immediately - that quiet assurance that says: you belong here, you are safe here, and we are glad you came.
Thomas Wallace
Joyce Penn, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I'm a quiet trooper that wants to help Mt. Zion achieve it's goal to reach the world and spread the gospel one family at a time.
Joyce Penn
Sharon Harding, member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church
I may be soft spoken, but I hope you hear this clearly: you are welcome here. Mt. Zion is a warm and inviting place - full of people who will make room for you, remember your name, and mean it when they say they are glad you came. Please come and see for yourself.
