Topic 32 of 33 - Your Place in the Learning Journey
The Bible and Science
The relationship between the Bible and modern science is one of the most contested areas in contemporary Christian life. It does not have to be. This topic approaches the question by asking what kind of text the Bible is, what it claims, and what science claims - and then examining where those claims actually overlap and where they operate in entirely different registers. The six sub-topics here move from the creation accounts in Genesis through evolution, the age of the earth, the Galileo affair, the witness of Christian scientists, and a concluding examination of what the Bible is and is not claiming to do.
The aim throughout is intellectual honesty: neither forcing the Bible to be a science textbook nor dismissing it as irrelevant to the questions science raises. Serious Christians have navigated this terrain thoughtfully for generations, and their work provides resources that the culture war framing of the debate tends to obscure.
